TRIESTE – The 20th Corri Trieste event organized by ASD Promorun with the collaboration of the Municipality of Trieste, Friuli-Venezia Giulia Region, included in the FIDAL National Calendar, was presented today at the Museum of Oriental Art in Trieste.The event is about to celebrate an important birthday.

With us on Saturday and Sunday will be the Petrarch High School students who will support us in all phases of the event’s implementation and who have been given the opportunity to interact face-to-face with our Press Office and social media managers with whom they actively collaborate on press releases and all communication pertaining to the event.”
Creator of the event and former blue athlete Michele Gamba: “The race has a high technical quality thanks to a fast circuit and the presence of top runners because we want everyone to witness the beauty of the athletic gesture of running, a noble and spectacular sport. Thanks to the elite athletes, including Olympic blue medalist Yassine Rachik, we could witness the best performance of the year on Italian soil in the 10 km road race, as already happened during the last edition.”

THE RACE – Last year’s Kenyan winner Dickson Simba Nyakundi had clocked a time of 28’47”, winning the seventh best 10k race time on Italian soil. The previous edition, the one in 2021, had instead celebrated the presence of Italian Giovanna Epis who, in preparation for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic marathon, closed her labors in 33’00”, her current personal best over the distance. Due to the prolonged redevelopment works in the Old Port area, the race will be held again on the very fast track of the last editionwhich consists of eight laps of 1,250 m completely closed to traffic. It is also a special occasion for fans who will be able to cheer on their friends and family as if it were a race on the track. The start and finish will have in the background the central Piazza Venezia from which the race will run on two straights through the city center and then overlook the sea. Just to allow everyone to experience a fast-paced race, ASD Promorun chose to limit registration, avoiding overcrowding. The Non-Competitive Ten, an event that has become part of the tradition and allows friends to challenge each other or simply run together, participating in a real celebration, will also take place in parallel.
THE TOP RUNNERS – Spotlight on Kenyan Castor Omweni Mogeni, who has in his legs the excellent 28’07” clocked in Arezzo last year, and on the very young Ethiopian Ararso Negasa, on a personal best just a few days ago at the Adizero road to records in Herzogenaurach when he crossed the finish line in 28’25”. Olympic marathon blue medalist Yassine Rachik (Fiamme Oro Padova), who has appeared several times at the Corsa dei Castelli, the other Promorun-organized event held in October, returns to Trieste. Rachik’s palmarès includes the 2016 Italian 5000m champion title, a bronze medal at the European U20 Championships in the 10000m in 2015, a bronze medal at the 2018 European Championships in Berlin in the marathon and a ninth-place finish at the 2019 London Marathon with 2h08’39”, his pb, just 46 seconds off the current Italian men’s record. In the 10km road race Rachik can boast a personal best of 28’45” recorded in Dalmine in 2017. It promises to be a fierce challenge against Burundian Celestin Ndikumana (Asd Atl. Futura Roma), who boasts the same record of 28:45″ over the distance as he did in Arezzo last year. He recently took victories in the 5000m at the Night Walk and Middle Distance Night in Milan and at the XXXII Meeting Città di Conegliano by clocking 13’31″96, respectively. and 13’18″74 as well as Kenyan Caroline Makandi Gitonga (Run2Gether) who earned the top step of the podium in 15’07″97. On the women’s side, the focus is all on her, used to competing in Italy where in Turin in 2019 she set her personal best with a time of 32’02”.
THE NUMBERS – About 250 athletes will start from Piazza Venezia with the pink quota rising to 21 percent. For Italy, of note is the large number of athletes from the major islands, particularly Cagliari and Trapani, joined by eight nations, with the most numerous coming from the Netherlands, followed by Slovenia and Austria.
CURIOSITY – The most experienced competitors are Franco Boniotto and Rosalba Madotto, who are nearing their 77th and 67th birthdays, respectively, while the youngest competitors are Viola Cascio and Leonardo Fontanot, who will turn 20 in the current year. Best wishes to Roberto Russi, who will blow out 63 candles during the race.
THE LUANVI T-SHIRT – For most runners, the emotions associated with participating in an event turn into memories. For this, all those registered for the event will receive a technical T-shirt from the Spanish company Luanvi, which is high-quality, breathable and stretchy to ensure maximum comfort. For him and her, white with the event logo in the center and the name of the race repeated to create a “puzzle” effect, it also bears the logos of AutoNord Fioretto and triestevillas, friendly partners of the event.
THE MEDAL – At the finish line, for all finishers, the medal to hang in their wall, to remember to relive the emotions of a day of sports and the final sprint to go get it. Good traditions don’t change, which is why ASD Promorun puts a silver medallion around the athletes’ necks on which the name of the event is printed, with the iconic Trieste skyline in the background, with the colors matching the T-shirt.
