TRIESTE – The 2nd International Road Race Running Match u.23 10k on Sunday, Oct. 20, an event included in the calendar of World Athletics, organized by ASD Promorun of Trieste with the collaboration of the Italian Federation of Athletics (FIDAL), was presented today at the Throne Hall of Miramare Castle.
Last year, the first edition celebrated the Italian tricolor with a gold for the men’s team and a silver for the women’s team, which succumbed only to their French rivals. In the Olympic year, with the European Athletics Championships taking place in Rome, and in which Promorun has made an active part by participating with a booth to invite the U23 national teams to participate in its event, there are already ten flags flying on the starting line with a full parterre of four men and four women from each nation: Denmark, France, England, Israel, Poland, Czech Republic, Serbia, Slovakia and Switzerland and, of course, Italy. Numbers in hand, with 80 athletes at the start already confirmed and at least 20 accompanying officials, the event, the only one involving foreign U23 national teams on Italian soil, promises to be a success and confirms Trieste’s strong vocation as a cultural crossroads and a city capable of promoting sports culture at the highest level.

Very fast first kilometers and skirting the sea, before entering Porto Vivo, hitherto known as Porto Vecchio, one of the most important examples of maritime industrial archaeology in the Mediterranean, defined as “An urban forest between Karst and the city” and entrusted with the task of catalyzing economic, tourist and cultural activities in this city area. Recently, this area of more than 66 hectares, 5 piers and 35 large buildings, hangars and warehouses, located a stone’s throw from the center of the city of Trieste, has been decemanized and the Municipality of Trieste has chosen to recover and redevelop it, as an exceptional testimony of 19th-century European architecture, in connection with the new opportunities open to the city. The athletes then continue in the direction of the beautiful Piazza Unità from which they ascend the alleys that lead to the San Giusto Castle not before tackling the final kilometer that has been given the nickname of “The Wall” because of the challenging climb. The route traces that of the #100UniTs Corsa dei Castelli and related events, Non Competitive Ten and Family Run 8 km for which no membership and competitive medical certificate are required, scheduled on the same Sunday.
#100UniTs CORSA DEI CASTELLI – Also kicking off on Sunday, Oct. 20, is the #100UniTS Corsa dei Castelli, a FIDAL-sanctioned 10-kilometer road running event, Non Competitive Ten and Family Run 8 km, which chronicles a very important new partnership with the University of Trieste, this year ready to celebrate a century of research, excellence, creativity and human ingenuity to which a sporting event is added.
